If there is this lonely forest in the world, Aokigahara is one of them. Aokigahara is known to be the suicide forest of Japan. This 35-square-kilometre forest is located at the northwest base of Mount Fuji. Every year, hundreds of dead bodies hanged are found and surprisingly increase annually.

Not all mountains and forest are meant for hiking, some just drop by to contemplate and think whether they should live or die. A lot of people camp in Aokigahara for days in order to reflect upon their lives. And when the time comes that they have made their decision, it's either they went back home and give their life another chance or end it right on the spot.

How can such a beautiful forest be converted into a suicidal destination of people who despise their life?

The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.
