With the vast growing numbers of data centers and data farms, Facebook and Microsoft teamed up to build the highest-capacity subsea internet cable to ever cross the Atlantic Ocean.

With 160 terabits per second of bandwidth, MAREA? in Spanish means "tide", is set to stretch 4,100 miles in a submarine cable system. Both companies hired Telxius, an infrastructure company owned by global communications giant Telefonica, to manage MAREA.

The two did not share how much the project costs.
