Just when you thought that Manila and Cebu have the worst traffic conditions, you might want to check this video wherein these cities have the world's craziest traffic jam. Could you still consider the Philippines lucky?

10 - Congestion at its worst…
Traffic and congestion is a massive problem in Pakistan, but it becomes even more intense in Raiwind, when once a year – for just 3 days - around 2 million people make their way to the town for a religious convention called Ijtema. The population of Raiwind is only around 32 000, so you can imagine how insane it can get with millions of visitors all at once.

9 - Breaking down walls…
Imagine being separated from your family and friends for 28 years… it’s hard to comprehend, but millions were affected by the erection of the Berlin Wall in East and West Germany. It was erected to prevent massive emigration and desertion in 1961 and broken down in 1989. The excitement when that wall went down must have been surreal and 18 million cars used the roadway that usually only had half a million cars on a day. The congestion was hectic, but I’m sure every single person caught in it – thought totally worth it!

8 - A life-saver
It’s not often one would team up traffic jam and lifesaving in the same sentence, but in the September of 2005, the massive traffic jam on Interstate 45 in Texas was just that. Hurricane Rita was heading towards Houston, and residents had to evacuate. 2.5 million vehicles tried to leave, causing major congestion and many were stranded for up to 24 hours. Although that wasn’t great, it more than likely saved many lives.

7 - Part of the daily routine…
Residents in Sao Paulo are so used to terrible congestion in the city Centre, they come prepared. They shave in the car, apply make-up and even hook up with potential partners. There are around 1000 new cars on the road daily there, and one of the worst traffic jams occurred in June 2009, where traffic was backed up for 112 miles! It’s tough on people and delivery charges are sky high because of the extreme driving conditions.

6 - A Record-Breaker…
Once you hear about this traffic jam, you might think twice about getting stuck in traffic for a few extra minutes for whatever reason. In February 1980 in France, a record was set for the world’s longest traffic jam, and I’m not talking days – but rather miles. It stretched for 109 miles, and the only reason for this was pretty bad weather and an unusually high number of vehicles on road. This record was broken by our listing at number 7.

5 - Road Rage Guaranteed…
Over in Taipei, things can get pretty scary on the roads. Roads are pretty good, great signage – so no problems there, but add thousands and thousands of motorists who don’t have much practical driving experience, and then add thousands of scooters, and you have very dangerous and congested conditions.

4 - When tragedy struck…
As you can imagine, the aftermath of September 11 must have been enormous – and so many other, unrelated areas were affected that we wouldn’t have even thought about. New York City was on lock down, bridges and tunnels closed and many areas becoming no-go zones. No public transport and only emergency vehicles allowed through. Traffic literally came to a standstill across the city, and fortunately hasn’t experienced anything like that since.

3 - Challenging at the best of times…
If you’re travelling between France and Italy and considering crossing at Ventimiglia, it will be a better idea to travel on any day except Fridays. Apparently there is a market at Ventimiglia on Fridays, and it’s one of the largest markets in Italy. People travel great distances to visit this market, and it’s said that the congestion in that area is atrocious! Coupled with excessive lines at the toll and the heavy stream from trucks and vehicles can quickly dampen a great day out.

2 - Road Rage waiting to happen…
Not much is given about this exact situation but it looks like a nightmare and it must be terrible to be caught up in the middle of it. This is in Yerevan, Armenia and there are many articles written about the lack of maintenance on traffic lights, no police monitoring the traffic and people just doing as they feel fit.

1 - World’s Worst…
A report by rt.com states that Moscow Traffic is the worst in the world! This traffic jam is testament to that. It was the 30th of November 2012, when the heaviest snowstorm in 50 years, buried the main highway that connects St Petersburg and Moscow. Traffic couldn’t budge for 3 days, and the government erected tents on route and even offered counselling to travelers.
