The provisional decrease will be implemented starting Monday, March 9, 2015, bringing the rate down from P40 to P30 for regular taxis and from P70 to P60 for airport taxis.
As clarified by LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez, the said rollback is only provisional thus taxi meters will not be recalibrated to reflect the new rates. The meters will still show the regular taxi rate, 40 pesos for regular taxis and 70 pesos for airport taxis, but taxi drivers are required to manually deduct 10 pesos from the total fare. Meaning, if your total taxi meter reading is 150 pesos, you are to pay only 140 pesos.
The LTFRB advised all passengers to take note of the new rates. The board also warned that taxi drivers who refuse to implement the rollback will be apprehended.
