MANILA, Philippines - Recently, the Land Transportation Franchising & Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has been too harsh on Uber with regards to their franchise requirements. Announcing that on Aug 21, they will be apprehending Uber drivers should the company fail to comply with their requirements.

But just then, the LTFRB just announce that they will be deploying a new service in which is very similar to how Uber works.

On a Facebook post by LTFRB Citizen Enforcer page, they announce that they will be rolling out their own version of Uber named "Premium Taxi" - an app base transportation system.

"Interested parties are cordially invited to a public consultation on Friday, July 24, 10:00 at 4th Floor, LTFRB Bldg., East Avenue, QC, regarding the issuance of new franchises for PREMIUM TAXI.

As per DOTC Department Order No. 2015-011, Premium Taxis' major operating conditions are:

1. The operator must have at least twenty (20) premium taxi units in his/her fleet;

2. All vehicles must be brand-new at the time of franchise application;

3. All vehicles must be in color set by the LTFRB (Note: It is proposed that the color will be black);

4. All vehicles shall have a maximum age of 7 years;

5. All vehicles must be equipped with a GPS vehicle tracking and navigation device;

6. All vehicles must be equipped with an on-board electric taxi fare payment device capable of processing payments made with credit card or debit card;

No wonder why they are so harsh on Uber. This is because they will be also launching their own version of it. We recall that they tagged Uber for being an "unfair competitor" and now they are building their own version of it and holding Uber to give way to their own application. Now who's being unfair here?

Should this "Premium Taxi" be launched, will you support it or will you still go with Uber? Share your thoughts!
